Tahquamenon Falls is found in Tahquamenon Falls State Park. The Tahquamenon River runs through the park and has an Upper and Lower Falls. The Upper Falls is the centerpiece of the park and is one of the largest falls east of the Mississippi at an impressive 50 feet (15.2 m) high and over 200 feet (61 m) wide. The tannins leached from the surrounding trees give the water its beautiful amber color. This waterfall is easily accessible by a paved pathway leading from the parking lot to observation platforms.
The Lower Falls is a series of five small falls and there is a 6.4 km (4 mile) trail along the river that leads to them. These falls can be viewed from the river bank or reached by boat. Row boats are available for rent at the parks concession.
