Known as Niagara of the North, Kakabeka Falls drops 40 metres over rock cliffs and some of the oldest fossils in the world. Check out the view from platforms and trails along the gorge or trace voyageur routes around the falls in this history-rich park. Features walking and nature trails in summer and groomed cross-country ski trails in winter.
Stop and stretch or have a picnic next to this lush waterfall between Dryden and Ignace.
The Falls, the natural beauty which gave Nestor Falls its name, is located on Highway 71. The Falls can range from a roaring mass of water to a mere trickling depending on precipitation and season. In either case, it is a must-see in the area with numerous photo opportunities and easy access. Pack yourself a lunch and enjoy the rushing water crashing over the rocks.
Take a moment to visit the "Biggest Little Falls" and enjoy the quiet peace of the lookout area. There are two viewing points on either side so the double falls can be viewed. Bring some food and enjoy a nice picnic at these picturesque falls.
Trowbridge Falls Campground is nestled in the whispering woods beside the cascading rapids of the Current River. The campground features a park, hiking trails, biking trails and access to popular wading spots on the river. City shopping and services are nearby. Sand River Falls is located on Hwy 17 north in Lake Superior Provincial Park. This makes for a lovely rest stop as it has ample parking, restroom facilities and a trail for a nice leg stretch. The trail is classified as "moderate" in skill level and proper footwear should be worn as there can be large rocks and tree routes. The Sand River is also known to a be fly fishing gem.
Rainbow Falls Provincial Park features two separate campgrounds conveniently located just off Highway 17. The Whitesand Lake Campground is located (11 km) 7 miles west of Schreiber. Three short hiking trails offer wide vistas of the park and surrounding area. Be sure to take the Rainbow Falls Trail, which leads to the lovely cascading falls. Feel the mist and spot a rainbow. The beaches and warm waters of Whitesand Lake situated in the park will delight all visitors. The Casque Isle Trail also runs through the park as it travels between Terrace Bay, Schreiber and Rossport.
Pukaskwa National Park is located 26 km (16 miles) south of Marathon. This National Park is known for its stunning views of Lake Superior, extensive hiking trails, beautiful granite shores, and sandy beaches. The park also offers car campers solitude and privacy at the Hattie Cove Campground. Home to the 60 km (37 mile) Coastal Hiking Trail, take a day hike to the White River Suspension Bridge. Or visit the Anishinaabe Camp to experience local Indigenous culture at the heart of Pukaskwa.
