Ye Olde Chip Truck opened in 1957 and has been a Kenora institution ever since. "World Famous" fries are made from Manitoba potatoes, and are hand-cut every day.
This quiet campground, just south of Nestor Falls features an impressive stand of old growth Red and White Pine trees. This makes for some very secluded campsites. The dedicated angler might catch Northern Pike, Crappie, Walleye, or small mouth bass. There is a large beach and buoyes swimming area which provides family fun. On occasion, a lucky individual might see American White Pelicans which sometimes make Caliper Lake their home.
Norman Park is located just off Lakeview Drive with the Railroaders' Museum closest to the road and park, beach and playground closer to the lake. As of 2019, the Rotary Splash Park opened at Norman Park with lake themed water attractions for all ages, including; giant cattails, arches that spray water and a giant water bucket that fills until it’s tipping point and soaks those underneath it.
Story behind Mural: Slim Luman stands with his foot on the running board of a loaded Linn Hauler equipped for summer. In winter, sleigh runners replaced the front wheels, and the versatile machine became the “locomotive” pulling a train of loaded sleighs.
The Caland and Steep Rock Iron Mines represent amazing feats of engineering and construction. Long before the days of computerized projections and simulations, engineers in the first half of the 20th century were able to accurately predict how moving 280 million cubic yards of water, silt and gravel would affect the area around what would be five of Canada’s premier iron ore mines.
Woman Lake Lodge is a remote, boat-in sport fishing camp, off the grid but on the map.
