The Serpent River First Nation Trading Post is a destination on Trans Canada Hwy 17 for families and visitors travelling across Canada. Be greeted by friendly staff and the ambiance of the beautiful stone fireplace surrounded by Indigenous art and a Birchbark Canoe, handcrafted by members of Serpent River First Nation. The Trading Post sells work by local artisans, and the Art Gallery is has a large collection of different styles of art including Native and Woodland.
Pelletier’s Gas Bar & Native Art Gallery is located in Lake Helen in Ontario’s Superior Country. The Lake Helen Reserve is located on Highway 11 and is approximately ¼ mile from the junction of Highway 11/17 just past the Nipigon River Bridge. The gas bar offers full service gas and diesel with a convenience store that has homemade baking, sandwiches, ice, propane, and snacks. The Hearst Ecomuseum is located in a heritage house and explores the origins, history and religion of the area’s Francophone beginnings. The house itself is one of the oldest in the community and was donated by the town of Hearst. Originally a private home, the house was then home to the sisters of Notre Dame du Perpétuel Secours, thus the first convent to house the Sisters of Perpetual Help.
Canadian Lighthouses of Lake Superior restores, preserves, maintains and promotes Lighthouses on Lake Superior offering tours and overnight lodging. An umbrella organization represents a movement to restore, preserve, maintain and promote lighthouses that dot the northern shores of Lake Superior. Incorporated under the Ontario Historical Society, CLLS’s duty is to provide to the public access to these unique heritage locations. The organizations stretches from US/ Pigeon River Boarder (near Thunder Bay) and follows the shoreline to Sault Ste.
