Take a break at any of the many benches and picnic pavilions along the route. Strategically placed informational plaques capture the essence of the river's historical past.

Gordon A. Schlichting, a Minneapolis architect, carved the Mermaid while he was a student spending the summers on Rainy Lake. Located in Silver Island Narrows, near Copenhagen Island, the Mermaid watches over the comings and goings of the lake.

Its primary responsibility is to serve Aboriginal people with special services in the fields of social, educational and cultural development while, at the same time, building a bridge of understanding between Native and non-Native people.

We always get snow and the lakes are usually safe and groomed for riding in January - giving snowmobilers plenty of time for snowmobiling.

The Algoma region truly loves winter and snowmobiling! Their trail system consists of over 2,000 miles of groomed trails carved through the rugged Canadian Shield and old growth forests. It's a Sledders Paradise: No traffic, friendly faces, awesome trails and sled friendly accommodations. The snowmobile season lasts longer than other parts of Ontario, usually well into late March.
