For more than 30 years, Papa Franco’s Restaurant has been a well-known and popular establishment in Kapuskasing. The Sturgeon River House Museum, located on the west bank of the Sturgeon River, promotes and preserves the cultural and natural heritage of the Municipality of West Nipissing. The Museum presents the fur trade era from 1623 to 1879, and pioneer life in West Nipissing between 1878 and 1939, along with cultural contributions among groups in the region.

The Lake of the Woods Museum was established in 1964 and tells the stories of the people who have made Kenora and Lake of the Woods their home from the beginning of time to today.  The museum features artifacts and stories related to the history of Kenora, the Lake of the Woods, and our many surrounding communities.  From pre-history to the town’s wild west beginnings, the Lake of the Woods Museum is sure to entertain and educate.  

The Lake of the Woods Discovery Centre has recently acquired various display components to enhance the delivery of its mandate to become not only a Travel Services Centre, but a Tourism destination in itself. The Lake of the Woods Discovery is home to one of six Science North Northern Nature Trading Hubs and THINK Hubs across northern Ontario.

The Hearst Cross Country Ski & Snowshoe Club is run entirely by VOLUNTEERS. This allows us to keep the membership rates at an affordable level. During the season, we invite you to give a few hours of your time in helping the Club.
