Douglas Family Art Centre

Douglas Art Centre

The Douglas Family Art Centre is a new addition to Kenora.  Opening in 2019, the Douglas Family Art Centre’s collection is based on a donation of over 60 W.J. Phillips paintings of the Lake of the Woods and surrounding area.  As the only public art gallery between Thunder Bay and Winnipeg, the Douglas Family Art Centre captures the spirit of the North, often featuring indigenous, nationally and internationally recognized artists.

Early Harvesters Mural

Story behind  Mural: Slim Luman stands with his foot on the running board of a loaded Linn Hauler equipped for summer. In winter, sleigh runners replaced the front wheels, and the versatile machine became the “locomotive” pulling a train of loaded sleighs.

Beech 18 (Airplane)

beech 18 (Airplane)

This aircraft was built from parts of three planes and erected here on false floats in 1995. The original plane - CA-222 3NM - was built in 1952 and assigned to the Royal Canadian Air Force. While the Beech 18 was never intended to be for the “budget-conscious” pilot because the 2 P&W 985 radial engines will consume close to a barrel of fuel per hour, it is capable of being a perfect, no frills, bush plane.
