Amethyst Mine Panorama, North America’s largest amethyst deposit, is an active, working quarry. Walking tour of mine, interesting informative talk on history and geology of the mine and the mineralogy of amethyst. Experience the joy and excitement of mining your own amethyst. They offer both guided and self-guided tours, as well as an onsite gift shop. They are located 60 kilometres east of Thunder Bay on Hwy 11/17 on East Loon Rd. Travel 8 kilometres to Bass Lake Rd. They do have an admission fee of $10 per person, and they also charge $4/pound to take anything out.
