This has to be seen to be believed—a massive, three-story red pine log house with a turret on top, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. Built by hand by an eccentric hermit from 1903 to 1904, it stands as a testament to the resilience and imagination of this “frontier” man.

Pickle Lake is the most northerly community in Ontario that is accessible year-round by road. Vast virgin forests stretch for hundreds of miles beyond the horizon. Emo is a scenic stop on the "MOM's Way" (Manitoba-Ontario-Minnesota) route. Just north of Emo, off Highway 615 you'll find the Clearwater/Pipestone Chain of Lakes which is home to several fishing and hunting lodges.

You can stock up on food, bait and tackle and other supplies in town or stay overnight in a hotel/motel. There are many resorts in the area offering great fishing or hunting and many are perfect for a family vacation. If you're looking for a very secluded remote cabin, there are many outposts cabins to fly to from Sioux Lookout.

Town of Minaki

Minaki is a beautiful resort town with a number of quality resorts, lodges, and campgrounds. The mighty Winnipeg River and English River Systems, offer tremendous fishing for walleye, muskie, northern pike, and bass. Hunting opportunities are some of the best in Ontario with large populations of deer, black bear, and huge moose in the areas north of the town. Minaki also has great cross-country skiing and mountain bike trails as well as rock climbing.
