The Municipality of Machin is made up of 3 communities all located on the beautiful Eagle Lake. Eagle River, Minnitaki and Vermilion Bay are all located in the heart of Sunset Country on the Trans Canada Highway. Vermilion Bay is located at the start of Highway 105, which leads to Ear Falls and Red Lake. The population is roughly 1200 people.

Perrault Falls

Just south of Ear Falls is Perrault Falls, featuring a breathtaking, long cascade of water between Perrault and Wabaskang Lakes. The Perrault Falls area is home to many resorts and lodges providing access to waters teeming with walleye, northern pike, muskie, and bass. Along with the lodges dotted along the way, you'll find a restaurant, store and gas station.

Township of Ear Falls

Ear Falls is a prime location to see Bald Eagles, as it is home to the largest returning nesting population of Bald Eagles in North America. A visit to Ear Falls from May to November promises many opportunities to see these majestic birds. Pakwash Provincial Park, just north of Ear Falls, has a beautiful 1.5 km sandy beach. Pakwash also has a campground, nature trails, and a concentration of Anishinabek rock paintings.

The Municipality of Red Lake

Visit Red Lake and experience the best in Northern lifestyle - past and present. Red Lake consists of six smaller towns located in the heart of a lake-studded, boreal forest region in Sunset Country. Most people visit Red Lake for its natural beauty, to see the abundant wildlife, and to experience incredible Canadian fishing in the many freshwater lakes in the area.

Hannam Park

Hannam Park in Rainy River

Hannam Park is located in the Town of Rainy River on the Rainy River. There is something for everyone at this public park. There is a swimming area, a boat launch, a playground as well as a splash pad/wading pool! During the summer, there is a canteen with great food and service.

 

You can also go for a walk on the River Trails which are accessible from the park. One of two of the trails is wheelchair accessible. 

 

Machin Park

Machin Park sits where a Hudson Bay Post used to be on Eagle Lake. There is a great playground area for the kids and a small swimming area.

 

The park is also known as "The Post" or Hudson Post Park. 

Ghost Lake Beach

Ghost Lake Beach is about 15 minutes from Dryden. It's a beautiful beach, with easy access for day-trippers, anglers, and swimmers. There is a boat launch, canoe rental, walking path, a picnic area, and restrooms. Great place to spend the day with the family.

 

In the winter, the area can be used for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Oscar's Bay Beach

Oscar Bay Beach Park is located at the end of Frenchman’s Rock Rd off of Hwy 621 near Morson. It is typical of the beaches on the south end of Lake of the Woods - long, beautiful with a long stretch to deep water. The area trees are near the beach, almost as if there were palm trees. The beach certainly feels like you may be in the Caribbean! 

 

Sandy Point Beach

Sandy Point Beach is a unique beach that can only be accessed by boat. It is located in the Bruce Channel on Red Lake, between Cochenour and McKenzie Island. You can watch the people ferry back and forth to the island!

 

It has a long sand bar that allows you to walk way out into the channel. It has two designated fire pits which are perfect for enjoying s'mores or a roasted hot dog. If you are boating in the area, please drive slow and watch for the sandbar.
