Slate Island Brewing Company is a small craft brewery on the northern shore of Lake Superior. Located in Terrace Bay, ON (approx. 2 hours east of Thunder Bay) They love to experiment with different beers and flavor profiles. The Casque Isles Trail is an adventurer’s dream come true, and then some—one of the top 10 best hikes in Ontario! This is the must-hike trail in Northwestern Ontario. The trail weaves 53 km (33 miles) along the north shore of Lake Superior, highlighting some of the most stunning vistas of Lake Superior, and linking the communities of Terrace Bay, Schreiber and Rossport together. You’ll be swept away as you hike from one beautiful bay to the next.
The Marathon Superior Picnic table is located at the top of Marathon’s famous Pebble Beach, near the parking area. Directions: Take a right out of the Station Four on the North Shore parking lot. Follow Peninsula Road south to the end, take a left on Stevens Avenue, then right on Howe Street to the end. After your picnic, to get right onto the beach follow the short but steep incline to the left.
The Nipigon Superior Picnic table is located at the marina alongside the majestic Nipigon River, with a view of the Nipigon River Bridge. Directions: Once at the marina, go straight following the signs to the picnic area. The table is at the far end of the marina, near the accessible paddle docks.
Lloyd’s Lookout is located in Red Rock on the Nipigon River Recreation Trail. The lookout is found 0.8 miles (1.3 km) in from the Red Rock trailhead of the Nipigon River Recreation Trail. The viewing platform offers incredible views above the Nipigon River out to Lake Superior. A few minutes further into the trail there are a couple of Parks Canada Red Chairs to relax in and soak in the view.
Pelletier’s Gas Bar & Native Art Gallery is located in Lake Helen in Ontario’s Superior Country. The Lake Helen Reserve is located on Highway 11 and is approximately ¼ mile from the junction of Highway 11/17 just past the Nipigon River Bridge.
