Fifth Falls Gooseberry State Park

Fifth Falls is accessed by a 5 km (3.1 mile) loop trail within Gooseberry Falls State Park. Hike this rugged path up Gooseberry River to the Fifth Falls, the smallest of the waterfalls in the park. There is a bridge over the river above the falls that creates the loop to the other side of the river. This trail will also take you to Lower, Middle, and Upper Falls of the Gooseberry River. Leashed dogs allowed.

Manabezo Falls

Presque Isle River Waterfalls Loop Trail is a 3.7km (2.3 mile) loop trail on the western edge of Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. The hike includes sections of boardwalk and stairs, wooded trail, a suspension bridge and three main waterfalls of the Presque Isle River, Manabezho Falls, Manido Falls and Nawadaha Falls. Leashed dogs allowed. Parking available at the Presque Isle Scenic Area.

 

Munising Falls

Munising Falls

Munising Falls is located within the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. This is one of the easiest falls to visit in the county. From the Munising Falls Visitor Center there is a ¼ mile (800 ft) paved trail that leads to two sets of stairs that lead to viewing platforms. Munising Falls is 50 feet high dropping over a sandstone cliff.

Tahquamenon Falls

Tahquamenon Falls is found in Tahquamenon Falls State Park. The Tahquamenon River runs through the park and has an Upper and Lower Falls. The Upper Falls is the centerpiece of the park and is one of the largest falls east of the Mississippi at an impressive 50 feet (15.2 m) high and over 200 feet (61 m) wide. The tannins leached from the surrounding trees give the water its beautiful amber color. This waterfall is easily accessible by a paved pathway leading from the parking lot to observation platforms.

Gooseberry Falls State Park is located near Two Harbors and is known for the gorgeous Gooseberry Falls. Gooseberry Falls features upper, middle, and lower falls for viewing. Some of the main things to do include viewing the scenic waterfalls and Lake Superior shoreline, visiting places such as the Visitor Center, nature store, historic CCC Log, and stone structures.

Stretch your legs at Chippewa Falls rest stop and see the same set of rapids that inspired A.Y Jackson’s sketch Stream Bed, Lake Superior Country, c. 1955, National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa. Grab your camera and try a long exposure shot to see if you can freeze the fast-paced water with your own artistic flair.  

Go-Mar Falls (Gorge Creek Falls)

Go-Mar Falls is on a 1.7 km (1 mile) trail, approximately 40 km (25 miles) northeast of Nipigon in the Municipality of Greenstone. The trail loops up and down the east and west side of the falls. Gorge Creek Falls is three separate falls, Fir Falls, Cedar Falls, and Hemlock Falls. Those seeking a truly memorable experience will hike up to heights exceeding 500ft. The views of both the falls and surrounding country will leave you in awe! 

Trowbridge Falls

Trowbridge Falls

Trowbridge Falls is northeast of Thunder Bay across from Centennial Park. The falls are a smaller set, closer to the size of rapids. Current River runs over the rocks that create the falls. The Trowbridge Falls is connected to Centennial Park by a bridge and Cascades Conservation Area to the north. These falls offer a beautiful view of the river and surrounding forest area; providing a relaxing location after a long hike or hot day.

Mink Creek Falls is west of Marathon just off Highway 17. This waterfall is fairly easy to find though can be easily missed due to lack of signage. It is a short five minute walk down a rugged trail to the falls. Once at the falls, it is the perfect destination to relax and take in the beauty of Northern Ontario. A great place to cool off, have a picnic, cast a line, and enjoy your surroundings.

Silver Falls Provincial Park

If you want an adventure, then Silver Falls is your destination. Silver Falls is within Silver Falls Provincial Park, 35 km northwest of Thunder Bay, Ontario. This pristine fall is a trek to get into, and out of, but it is the perfect destination for those that would like to do backcountry camping. The trail begins with a steep descending section with a rope to aid hikers.
