The Hearst Ecomuseum is located in a heritage house and explores the origins, history and religion of the area’s Francophone beginnings. The house itself is one of the oldest in the community and was donated by the town of Hearst. Originally a private home, the house was then home to the sisters of Notre Dame du Perpétuel Secours, thus the first convent to house the Sisters of Perpetual Help.

Gore Bay Museum

The Gore Bay Museum is housed within the Gore Bay court complex, having originally served as the Manitoulin District Jail and jailer's residence until 1945. This museum is unique in that it has preserved many of its original features, making it one of the few remaining Ontario jails to do so. Today, the museum showcases the fascinating history of the local early settlers.

An umbrella organization represents a movement to restore, preserve, maintain and promote lighthouses that dot the northern shores of Lake Superior. Incorporated under the Ontario Historical Society, CLLS’s duty is to provide to the public access to these unique heritage locations. The organizations stretches from US/ Pigeon River Boarder (near Thunder Bay) and follows the shoreline to Sault Ste.
