Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park is the largest state park within Michigan. With 60,000 acres located along the southern shores of Lake Superior and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It has many beautiful landscapes, waterfalls, vistas, and hemlock-hardwood stands. Being such a large park there is plenty to do.
It is open all year round and is the perfect camping spot. If you plan to travel in the colder months they offer winter camping. During the winter you can snowshoe, hike, and cross-country ski. If you are traveling in the warmer months you can swim, paddle, hunt, fish, hike, and participate in metal detecting or nature programs. They also have Wi-Fi available and pet-friendly areas.
There are boat rentals to explore the waters more or simply float leisurely. Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park includes many amenities such as a boat launch, modern restrooms, concession store, group camping sites, picnic areas, dumping stations, a visitors’ center and even Yurts. They offer camping for every type of camping shelter such as a tent or RV.
