Museum Ship Valley Camp
Description

Explore inside the 550 foot (170m) long Valley Camp Great Lakes Freighter. This unique Maritime Museum has over 100 exhibits inside its 20,000 square foot cargo hold. Some items exhibited are historical artifacts, paintings, recovered shipwreck items, and two lifeboats from the SS Edmund Fitzgerald wreck. Valley Camp was originally christened the S.S. Louis W. Hill in 1971 and was in service on the Great Lakes for almost 50 years. It was then purchased by Le Sault de Sainte Marie Historical Sites Inc during the city’s tri-centennial celebration in 1968. In the early 70s it was designated a Michigan State Historic Site and placed on the National Register of Historic Places as a historic vessel.
