Miners Castle

Miners Castle is located about 8 km (5 miles) from Munising on Alger County H-58 and then 9.6 km (6 miles) north on Miners Castle Road that overlooks the beautiful Pictured Rocks shoreline. From the parking lot there is a short paved pathway that leads past exhibits to overlooks of Lake Superior and Grand Island. The first lookout is wheelchair accessible. There are stairs that lead down to the lower lookouts.

Superior Café is located in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan – home to the busiest canal in the world. They offer an extensive menu of drinks made with thier own coffee beans from the Superior Coffee Roasting Company. Enjoy a sweet treat and a bagel sandwich to accompany your beverage and take a seat inside or out. You can even get your order to go and take a stroll up the block to Soo Locks Park and watch as freighters go by.

The Soo Locks Visitor Center is fittingly situated in the Upper Canal Park. The Park serves as an excellent place to watch passing boats going through the Locks at the observation platform. The Visitor Center is a great place to stop and ask for information on the Soo Locks, the surrounding area and everything it has to offer. A number of displays chronicle the construction of the Locks as well as thirty minute movie that details the history of this maritime marvel.

Museum Ship Valley Camp

Museum Ship Valley Camp

Explore inside the 550 foot (170m) long Valley Camp Great Lakes Freighter. This unique Maritime Museum has over 100 exhibits inside its 20,000 square foot cargo hold. Some items exhibited are historical artifacts, paintings, recovered shipwreck items, and two lifeboats from the SS Edmund Fitzgerald wreck. Valley Camp was originally christened the S.S. Louis W. Hill in 1971 and was in service on the Great Lakes for almost 50 years. It was then purchased by Le Sault de Sainte Marie Historical Sites Inc during the city’s tri-centennial celebration in 1968.

Gooseberry Falls State Park is located near Two Harbors and is known for the gorgeous Gooseberry Falls. Gooseberry Falls features upper, middle, and lower falls for viewing. Some of the main things to do include viewing the scenic waterfalls and Lake Superior shoreline, visiting places such as the Visitor Center, nature store, historic CCC Log, and stone structures.

Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park

Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park is the largest state park within Michigan. With 60,000 acres located along the southern shores of Lake Superior and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It has many beautiful landscapes, waterfalls, vistas, and hemlock-hardwood stands. Being such a large park there is plenty to do.

Munising Tourist Park Campground is located in Munising on the shore of Lake Superior. The park offers 127 scenic campsites with full, partial and rustic tent sites. Amenities include 20/30/50 amp service, dump station, free WIFI, modern restrooms and showers. Close to Pictured Rocks and Grand Island Cruises.

Soo Locks Campground

Soo Locks Campground

Soo Locks Campground is situated along the beautiful St. Mary's River. The campground offers 100 sites just a short distance to the Soo Locks. This is a ideal camping site to watch freighter go by. Amenities include water and electrical hook-ups, pump-out station, restrooms, camp store and a game and recreation room.

Group of Seven (Interpretive Panel) - Marathon District Museum and Historical Society

Your Group of Seven experience continues along the North Shore of Lake Superior. Stop by the Marathon District Museum and Historical Society to hear local stories and see photographs related to the Group of Seven. A Moments of Algoma Group of Seven Interpretive installation just outside the Museum, frames how the rugged coastline has been immortalized and permanently captured on canvas by multiple members of the Group.

Aguasabon Falls & Gorge

Aguasabon Falls

Aguasabon Falls is in Terrace Bay, off Highway 17. It is one of the entrances to the Casques Isles Hiking Trail. The area has an accessible boardwalk, picnic tables, RV friendly parking lot, and washrooms. Admire the 100 ft waterfall, as it cascades into the beautiful Aquasabon Gorge below.  It is here you will find a 2.6-billion-year-old rock face worth exploring. Aguasabon Falls is a stunning must see stop while traveling along the North Shore of Lake Superior, visiting Superior Country, or driving along the Lake Superior Circle Tour.
