Amethyst Mine Panorama, North America’s largest amethyst deposit, is an active, working quarry. Walking tour of mine, interesting informative talk on history and geology of the mine and the mineralogy of amethyst. Experience the joy and excitement of mining your own amethyst. They offer both guided and self-guided tours, as well as an onsite gift shop. They are located 60 kilometres east of Thunder Bay on Hwy 11/17 on East Loon Rd. Travel 8 kilometres to Bass Lake Rd.

Superior Rocket

Zoom up close to the lakers and salties, look up at the massive grain elevators, and pass by the famous Alexander Henry Museum Ship. Continue up the Kaministiqua River, under the formidable Jackknife Bridge, around the Ontario Power Generation power station, and back onto the big lake for a hair-raising rocket ride to the historic Thunder Bay Main lighthouse. Superior Rocket is owned and operated by Sail Superior and departs from Pier 3 at Prince Arthurs Landing/Marina Park.

Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church, Grotto, and Cemetery

Ukrainian Orthodox Church

Construction of this Ukrainian Catholic church in the Rural Municipality of Springfield began in 1930, designed by priest-architect Philip Ruh, and it was consecrated 22 years later. Reverend Ruh worked
alongside his congregation in building the largest of his remaining creations in Manitoba. He also supervised construction of the adjacent Grotto, a representation in concrete of the Grotto at Lourdes, France.
