Whitefish Island is located in Sault Ste Marie in Ontario’s Algoma Country. It is a 0.62 mile (1km) long teardrop-shaped island. The Island is just across the and can be accessed by footbridge. The island is a fantastic place to explore the walking trails that take you along the St Mary’s River. Whitefish Island was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1981 because of the pre contact remains found there and the Aboriginal encampment.

August 31 - September 1, 2024

M’Chigeeng marks the end of the Island’s traditional Powwow season. This vibrant community along the Niagara Escarpment is the second-largest First Nation on Mnidoo Mnising. The pow-wow grounds are spacious and provide lots of room for dancing, as well as enjoying the large assortment of food and crafts the vendors have on offer.

There is no other place quite like the Ojibwe Cultural Foundation, just around the corner from Lillian’s in M'Chigeeng. Part art gallery (and oh, what art!), part breathtaking museum, and part cultural experience, visitors are invited to experience the authentic expression of the Anishinaabe language, culture, and spirituality. Cando's Corner is a self-service First Nation gas station located 15km NNW of Marathon on Pic River 50 .

The station doesn't just have fuel though, it also offers many other services and amenities to its customers. The gas station also sells tobacco products, which may be of interest to some customers.
