The Nipigon River Pictographs are located on cliffs in the Nipigon Bay at the mouth of the Nipigon River where it enters Lake Superior in Ontario’s Superior Country. The pictographs are only viewable by boat, canoe or kayak. There is a boat launch and EZ Dock for kayaks at the Nipigon Marina and a launch at the Red Rock Marina adjacent to the site. This Indigenous pictograph site is the second largest on Lake Superior – the first being the Agawa pictographs. The depictions are thought to be painted using red ochre mixed with sturgeon fish oil.

Continue your Indigenous education with a visit to Iroqrafts, a unique store specializing in First Nations arts and crafts. The extensive collection of handmade jewelry, pottery, and traditional artwork will leave you wanting to take home a few souvenirs!

Whitefish Island is located in Sault Ste Marie in Ontario’s Algoma Country. It is a 0.62 mile (1km) long teardrop-shaped island. The Island is just across the and can be accessed by footbridge. The island is a fantastic place to explore the walking trails that take you along the St Mary’s River. Whitefish Island was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1981 because of the pre contact remains found there and the Aboriginal encampment.

Finish your long weekend with a day exploring Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory, the largest Nation in Ontario by area. Take a hike on the Bebamikawe Trail, step into a guided cultural or culinary experience, visit Mishibinijma Art Gallery, and bring some of the Island home with you from the Wiky gift shop.

After the Powwow, head over to Bayside Resort on Manitowaning Bay in Wikwemikong for a one or two-night stay. The only things you'll need to bring are food, friends and slippers to cozy up in! Each log cabin comes equipped with everything you need for a relaxing getaway.

M’Chigeeng marks the end of the Island’s traditional Powwow season. This vibrant community along the Niagara Escarpment is the second-largest First Nation on Mnidoo Mnising. The pow-wow grounds are spacious and provide lots of room for dancing, as well as enjoying the large assortment of food and crafts the vendors have on offer.

There is no other place quite like the Ojibwe Cultural Foundation, just around the corner from Lillian’s in M'Chigeeng. Part art gallery (and oh, what art!), part breathtaking museum, and part cultural experience, visitors are invited to experience the authentic expression of the Anishinaabe language, culture, and spirituality. And don't forget the gift shop!
