For more than 50 years, Northern Portage Lodge has been a small family owned and operated business. Our main camp is nestled on Matchinameigus Lake and has a large, fully-furnished family/group cabin as well as a smaller rustic beach cabin. Discover the beauty of the 4.2-kilometer loop trail near Wawa, Ontario. Rated moderately challenging, traverse typically takes around 1 hour and 21 minutes. This trail is a favorite among hikers, offering a serene experience amidst nature. While popular, quieter moments can be found during off-peak hours. The prime visiting season spans from May to October, welcoming leashed dogs to join the adventure.

The marina hosts incredible views of Dog Head Mountain and the famous Nipigon Bridge. You'll also find a trailhead for the Nipigon River Recreation Trail that leads all the way to Red Rock—but you don't have to complete the whole thing! It's a 2-kilometre, forested walk to the viewing deck right on the river.

Across from the marina there's a trail to the "Turtle Docks" which give a great view of the Nipigon Lagoon.

Open from May to September, the park is a great option for day trips as well as overnights as it's equipped for RVs and any other kind of camping.

The Sturgeon River House Museum, located on the west bank of the Sturgeon River, promotes and preserves the cultural and natural heritage of the Municipality of West Nipissing. The Museum presents the fur trade era from 1623 to 1879, and pioneer life in West Nipissing between 1878 and 1939, along with cultural contributions among groups in the region.
