In 1951, this parcel of waterfront land was deeded by the Carson and Cross families to the YM-YWCA to be used as a summer camp for youth. ln the intervening years, the Ministry of Government Services became the owner of the property. ln the early 80s, the Handicapped Action Group Inc. (HAGI) had a dream of expanding this camp into a facility that would allow disabled persons and their families to enjoy what many of us take for granted - life at the lake, swimming, fishing, boat rides and campfires. On August 1, 1983, HAGI entered into a 20-year Lease with Her Majesty the Queen (HMQ), as represented by the Minister of Government Services, to lease the land to develop the current HAGI camp. The camp was constructed with labour donated by volunteer citizens and local service clubs - Rotary, Kinsmen, Kiwanis, and Lions, and many volunteers that remained active over the years with yearly "work parties" assisting with repairs, roofing, construction of decks, walkways, and docks, including the construction of the "freeway" through the forest from the upper levels of the property to the beach and a dock which enables anyone, even those in wheelchairs and walkers and on crutches, to make their way from the cabins to the water and the boats. The Lease was amended in 1993/94, expired in 2013, and was continued with yearly extensions until the fall of 2015.
